CHILD ABUSE
A child
according to the oxford advanced learners dictionary, can be defined as one who
is below the age of adulthood; a minor gloss person who is below the legal age
of responsibility.
Abuse means
the improper treatment or usage; application to a wrong or bad purpose; an
unjust, corrupt or wrongful practice or custom.
Child abuse
is then the physical, sexual or emotional mistreatment of a child. Any form of
treatment meted on a child other than normal or fair correction of the child’s
bad act is known as child abuse.
This is one
of the most inhuman treatments that is been experienced in the country and the
world at large. The children have suffered a lot of abuse from their parents
and mostly their guardians, and many are still in this same condition. In as
much as we have the child right agency, I advice that the government should put
more interest and device more means to eradicate child abuse.
As the
children are the future leaders, we should be more careful in dealing with them
because their success determines the success of our future. If we produce
abused children, our future society will be filled with the product of abuse
such as depressed and low self-esteemed children which is not advisable.
CAUSES OF
CHILD ABUSE
The major
cause of child abuse in the world is the ignorance
of the purpose of children. Yes, I know this might sound very strange but
it is the root of all abuse both for living and non-living things.
If we all
are fully aware of the purpose and importance of children in our society and in
the world in general, there won’t be any news of abuse in the society. For
example, if I have a phone that I bought at a very costly price that I need for
my daily activities, I won’t try to abuse the phone or give it to someone who
will because I know the value and purpose of the phone.
Most times,
people start from the womb to abuse children by trying to abort them. The
question is this, if you were aborted in the womb, will be alive now? We should
learn to give every conceived child a chance to live and every living offspring
a chance to live an abuse-free life.
THE WAY TO
ERADICATE CHILD ABUSE
Many ways
have been outlined by scholars as ways of eradicating child abuse but here is
the basic solution;
ENLIGHTENMENT
OF THE MASSES ON THE IMPORTANCE AND PURPOSE OF CHILDREN IN THE SOCIETY AND
WORLD AT LARGE.
The
government or any authorized N.G.O should establish a body that will oversea the
education or creating awareness of the importance of children in the society.
This can be done by including topics related to the importance of children in
the education curriculum so as to ensure that even from childhood, our children
are properly educated on their importance to avoid the abuse of children by
their fellow children. They should also organize seminars, t.v programs and
radio programs that will properly teach and educate the masses on the
importance of children and also level out very severe punishments for law
breakers and offenders.
Our children
are God’s consolation of the world and our promise and hope for a better
tomorrow so we should learn to treat them in the best way we can so as to
secure a better future for our generations to come. NB; when I talk about the
government, am referring to us, this is because, we make up the government,
without us there is no government. Try to enlighten any parent or guardian you see maltreating their children. THE CHANGE BEGINS WITH US.
